Speechwriters LLC – Go Home

This blog is dedicated to spotlighting select songs of independent or small-label artists. These songs can often (but not always) be characterized as pop music, encompassing its many sub-genres. However, none of these songs can be classified as “Top 40” (or any sub-genre thereof) typically heard on American radio and television. Proving that good, quality pop music is available…you just have to be willing to search for it or know where to find it. This blog takes away all of the work and leads the reader/listener straight to the discovery and enjoyment. The ultimate goal, of course, is to bring these “unknown” artists to the attention of the general public and give them well-deserved attention.

Song in the Spotlight: “Go Home” (Speechwriters LLC, from Hollywood College (2011))

Genre:  Alternative Pop

Review:  A mid-tempo number, “Go Home” has an insidious melody that has a way of finding a home in your brain.  It may take a few listens for the lyrics to start sinking in, but the melody has a mind of its own.  You’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t download the song (how could I be dumb enough to pass on a great song…for free (see below)?) and FOR downloading the song (because the melody has a magic power and it will soon control you…don’t say you weren’t warned).  Rating: 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

Artist Bio:  Speechwriters LLC is Misha Chellum and Dave Lowensohn, a Portland, OR-based acoustic-electric pop band.  For more in-depth information, check out the Press link on the band’s Web site or Wikipedia.  When not devoting his energies to Speechwriters LLC, Dave Lowensohn plays bass in Ramona Falls and Lost Lander.

Song available on:  Naturally, you can purchase “Go Home” on any number of commercial sites, e.g., iTunes and Amazon.com, but if you like the song (or you find Speechwriters LLC is your new favorite band) you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that you can download the song free-of-charge on the band’s Web site or its Soundcloud.com or Bandcamp.com pages.  Speechwriters LLC has taken the unusual step of making all of their music available for free…yes, ALL of their music.  But, out of the goodness of your heart, TuneTraveller thinks you should at least buy a few songs.

Artist Pedigree:  Speechwriters LLC was formed in 2001 in Claremont, CA and has released a number of official and unofficial albums.  The band has also toured extensively (38 states and counting) so, if you’re patient, there’s a decent chance it will be in your neck of the woods in the not-too-distant future.

Artist Releases:  Clones (2002), The Bull Moose After Party (2005), We Are Selling This CD for Gas Money (2005), Indifferent Cities (2009), Hollywood College (2011) and Sup Girl – EP (2014).
